Product Statement

Single ply bamboo plywood (also called 1-ply bamboo panel or single-layer bamboo sheet) is a monolithic board made by edge-bonding kiln-dried Moso bamboo slats into one continuous layer, then precision-calibrating both faces. Unlike conventional multi-ply plywood, this product has no cross core-it's a uniform lamella from face to face-so it behaves like a solid bamboo skin: light, flexible, and perfect for curved laminations, door skins, drawer bottoms, acoustic slat faces, signage, and CNC/laser craft parts. Use it alone as a decorative sheet or press multiple single plies together to build your own 2-ply/3-ply composites.

 

Construction

Lamella selection: node-trimmed, kiln-dried (8–10% MC) Moso strips are sorted by color, then edge-glued for a consistent appearance.

Lay-ups: Vertical grain (fine linear look) or Horizontal grain (bold stripes).

Adhesives: low-VOC E0/E1 for interior work; WBP phenolic available for wet/cleaning-intense zones.

Finishing state: factory-sanded ~220 grit; optional matte UV, primer-UV (paint-ready), or thin oil-wax.

Finishing Recipes

CNC/sawing: use sharp compression or up/down-cut bits; on panel saws, fine-tooth ATB with a scorer prevents fuzzing.

Laser: engraves cleanly-raise speed and lower power to minimise browning; light sand after.

Bonding: when used as a skin, glue to stable substrates (birch ply/MDF/honeycomb). For curved work, laminate 2–4 plies to lock radius and reduce spring-back.

Sealing: finish both faces and all edges; select WBP for steam-prone areas.

FAQ – 

Q1. What's the difference between single ply and regular bamboo plywood?
Single ply is one monolithic lamella (no cross core). Standard bamboo plywood is multi-ply with cross-laminated layers for extra stiffness.

Q2. How thin can you make it?
Common calibrated targets are 1.5–6 mm for flexible skins, and up to 10 mm when a stiffer single layer is preferred.

Q3. Can I cold-form it without cracking?
Yes-thin plies bend to tight radii. For small radii and spring-back control, laminate multiple single plies over a form.

Q4. Is single ply strong enough for shelves?
Used alone, it's a skin-grade sheet. For shelves or doors, bond to a stable core or build a multi-ply.

Q5. Which finish is best for painted walls/ceilings?
Order primer-UV on both faces; it sands fast and keeps coating stress balanced.
